In the Spotlight: Irish Life Health’s Member Benefits

Next up in our ‘In the Spotlight’ series is Irish Life Health, who were established following the acquisitions of Aviva Health and Glo Health in 2016. We take a look at some of the great benefits you may be entitled to as an Irish Life Health member.

Minor Injury Clinics

These clinics give rapid access to treatment and advice on minor injuries such as fractures, fever and sports injuries via Irish Life Health’s approved network of walk-in clinics - which includes all 11 HSE minor injury clinics, Laya Health & Wellbeing Clinics (MyMedical) and Affidea’s Express Care Clinics.

While Irish Life Health will pay Affidea and MyMedical clinics directly, up to the amount detailed on your table of cover, for HSE clinics you will need to pay and then claim back the costs detailed on your table of cover.

Digital Doctor

Digital Doctor gives you unlimited consultations with a GP. You can speak with a GP over the phone or, if you’d prefer a face-to-face consultation, there’s also an online video service available. When appropriate, GPs will fax a prescription to a local pharmacy of your choice.

Digital Doctor also gives you access to other useful services and information. You can download the app or contact 1890 100 048 to make an appointment.

Back-Up Programme

Early intervention in back or neck ailments can prevent more serious issues in the future, so this programme provides expert advice and treatment for acute back and neck pain.

You will be assigned a ‘Back-Up Case Manager’, who is a Chartered Physiotherapist, and receive a personalised treatment plan – which, if required, includes face-to-face sessions with a physiotherapist.

'Healthy Minds' & Mental Health Support

Over the past year, caring for our mental health has become a number one priority for many.

Irish Life Health’s ‘Healthy Minds’ provides 24/7 access to confidential counselling over the phone. You can reach out to discuss anything from mental health difficulties to financial or legal issues – and you may be referred to a specialist for further support, depending on your needs. Six face-to-face sessions are covered through this programme.

Irish Life Health offer a number of free resources to help you care for and understand your mental health. With access to in-person appointments somewhat restricted by the pandemic, these resources could be invaluable in helping you maintain your wellbeing.

Some of these resources are free and available to all, regardless of whether you’re a member of Irish Life or not. For example, their Couch Counsellor series is available on YouTube, offering professional advice to make lockdown easier on your mental health.

There are also a comprehensive range of benefits under their ‘Mind Extra’ option, which can be added to certain plans for free – including contributions towards stress reduction and self-compassion programmes, positive mental health training and life coaching.

International Second Opinion Service

This is a second medical opinion service offering valued guidance when diagnosed with a serious medical condition. You will have direct access to a global network of medical experts by phoning 1800 902 251.

There is a personalised AI coach that will offer you advice through the app and encourage you to make healthy changes. You connect this to a fitness tracker such as a FitBit and can earn points to achieve a monthly goal you set for yourself.
